Baptising Daisy

January 27th, 2012 · No Comments · Uncategorized

We had a good time at our second meeting on Tuesday this week. We held the baptism of ‘Daisy’.

The Font

Everybody enjoyed it, mum, dad, the godparents and all the friends and relatives. And I enjoyed it too. Unfortunately none of us had thought to bring a camera so we don’t have any photos.

Of course, it wasn’t a real baptism. We went through it show that the words our parent and godparents say at the

baptism on our behalf are the very same words we say for ourselves at our confirmation. They are words in which we promise to to turn to Christ and be his disciple for all our life. Saying those words is a very special and important thing.

So, here are the questions to be answered by our meeting next Tuesday:

1) There are two main parts in the Holy Bible; what are they called?

2) How many books are there in the first part and how many books are there in the second part?

3) What is an ‘epistle’?

4) Where in the Bible will you find the 10 Commandments?

5) How many gospels are there and who wrote them?

Confirmation Preparation Begins

January 18th, 2012 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Hello everybody. On Tuesday this week we started our Confirmation preparation. Well, those from year 6 did. 7 adults who are being confirmed started on Monday evening. Both meetings went very well.

On Tuesday we looked around St. Andrew’s church and learned a little bit about the significance of the layout of the building and some of the things in it.

The church building ‘speaks’ to us just in the way that other buildings ‘speak’ to us. The rooms, what’s in them and the way the rooms are laid out tell us something about the people who gather there and what they do. If you come on a 4th Sunday in the month, the smell in the air inside will tell you something as well. I wonder what?

I’ve written some questions below. See if you can answer them and write your answers in the box on the  Questions and Comments page. The member of the group who gives me the first best answers will win a prize next Tuesday. Remember that I said that very often, when it comes to the Church and the Christian faith there aren’t right or wrong answers. So that’s why I’m looking for the best.

Don’t simply cut and paste what you find on Wikipedia for your answers (you won’t be able to do that anyway on the Thursday of this week because Wikipedia is shutting down for the day as are other internet sites, and WordPress too I think) I’ll know if you’ve done that. I want the answers in your own words.

Here’s the questions I’d like you to answer:

1. In the church there is a wooden screen between the nave and the chancel. Can you remember what it’s called?

2. Why is the screen called by that name? What does the word mean?

3. Just as there are seasons of the year in nature – Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, there are seasons in the Church’s year. Can you name them?

4. There is a colour e.g. green or red associated with each of the seasons. Which season matches which colour?

5. What do we call the big eagle that carries the book we do the readings from?

Don’t forget to tell me who you are when you answer the questions. I won’t publish the answers you give until next week. Best of luck!!!
